Dr Lotz has extensive surgical training and experience in both cosmetic surgery and very complex reconstructive surgery.

I studied medicine at the University of New South Wales, and then worked at the Royal North Shore Hospital during my intern and resident years. I had known for a long time that I wished to pursue a career in surgery. When I saw my first Plastic Surgery operation I realised how beautifully it combined the improvement of function with the restoration of form, and I knew then that Plastic Surgery was the career for me

Throughout my career I have dedicated myself to being the best surgeon that I can be. I was the first Australian surgeon to complete the extended Plastic Surgery training program which involved 3 years of general Plastic Surgery and then 2 years of specific training in facial surgery. After completing this I was awarded scholarships by both the Australasian Cleft Lip and Palate Association and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons, which allowed me to spend a year doing further work in France.

My year in France (Paris and Nantes specifically) involved learning the art of ear reconstruction and facial aesthetic surgery, which enabled me to return home with additional skills to treat patients and to educate local surgeons.

When I returned to Australia I worked in the public hospital (RNSH) from 2006 until 2014. This work involved treating Burns patients, road trauma, and cancer reconstruction, as well as the training of doctors studying to become Plastic Surgeons. I have also been involved in both local and international charity work through both Interplast and the Foundation for Plastic Surgery, which includes pro bono work and training of local doctors both in Australia and overseas.

The training of other Plastic Surgeons has always been something I have been involved in and I feel proud of this voluntary commitment for the good of the profession. From 2015-2016 I was the National Chairman of Plastic Surgery training. I am also committed to ensuring patient safety and standards of care, having been on the of Castlecrag Private Hospital Medical Advisory Committee since 2008, and Chairman of this Committee since 2015.

I believe in the importance of my own ongoing education and training and regularly attend both local and international conferences to keep up to date with advances in plastic surgery. My work with the Australasian Foundation for Plastic Surgery involves visits to remote indigenous communities to educate local health care workers.

I grew up on the North Shore of Sydney, and now live here with my wife and two children. I enjoy golf, skiing, running and cycling. More recently I have pursued an interest in the study of wine and obtained my level 3 Wine and Spirit Education Trust qualification in 2019.
